Summertime is filled with happy days — weddings, reunions, and weekend getaways fill our calendar for three months straight, and the joy of the season is hard to deny.
In these moments, when life feels so good, joy comes naturally; it’s exactly what we feel when we’re with those we love most and taking time to do the things we’re passionate about. Other times, however, when things are more challenging than we hoped or anticipated, choosing joy is no longer the easy route; it’s the harder path, and it can be a struggle to maintain optimism when the outlook is gloomy.
But friends: this is when it matters most. This is when choosing joy is so very important. It’s in these moments that we have the opportunity to step back, gain perspective on the situation at hand, and remind ourselves that we do indeed have a choice here. While we can’t control what happens to us and comes our way in life, we can control how we react to and handle those situations. And if you choose to react with optimism and handle them with joy — the situation will seem a lot less devastating and intimidating, and a lot more “figure out-able,” as one of my favorite business babes, Marie Forleo, often quotes.
Don’t be fooled, though — this advice is not just business-friendly; it’s life-friendly, and it applies to any situation or circumstance we’re faced with.
