But it doesn’t stop there.
One hurdle leads to another, and before you know it, half of your day is gone, and you still don’t know what you accomplished because, truthfully, you’ve spent the day so far putting out fires and reacting to everything around you.
And let’s not forget about the evening...
You finally finish a day of work, and — even if you have all the positive intentions in the world to be a productive rock star at home — all you can muster up the energy for is a quick dinner and collapsing on the couch.
This is what I like to call being busy, but not productive.
And I’ve been there.
OH, how I’ve been there.
(Stay with me...)
“Only 60% of work time, or even less, is spent being productive.”
“The average employee is interrupted from their work 56 times a day.”
- Atlassian -
…and if you keep those notifications on your phone and computer all day long, I can assure you that productivity is WAY lower and interruptions are WAY higher than that.
But interruptions are just part of the battle to fight “busyness.” We’re also thrown off by boredom, stress, and lack of focus. Throw all of these ingredients together in a big ol' melting pot, and it’s no wonder we go about each day just trying to stay on top of the madness — much less make any real progress where it counts!
